Text: "From hence we went to fee a Piece of Sculpture of St Paul, which stands facing the Road upon an Octogon Pedestal, and that upon a very regular circular Mount, about twelve Yards in Diameter, which Mount the Inhabitants fay is a natural Rock, and the very Spot where St Paul stood when he preached first to the Island; he is represented with an extended Arm, his fore Finger; protruded;, and a large Folio, (which I wonder how he came by, as the Ship and every thing was loft, except the Lives of the People, and as he was the first Christian that appeared on that Island) suspended under his Left Arm, which we were told was the New Testament . . . ."
